Virginia Green Travel Alliance and the Charlottesville Area
If you are traveling in Virginia, you should check out the Virginia Green Travel Alliance. Their byline is "Helping to take Green Tourism in Virginia to the next level", and their mission is to advance the objectives the Virginia Green program. Virginia Green is a network of tourism-related organizations and programs that are committed to protecting the environment while promoting responsible tourism.
"Virginia Green is run through a partnership among the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC), and the Virginia Hospitality and Travel Association (VHTA). The program seeks to reduce the environmental impacts of the tourism industry and raise environmental awareness." Albemarle County was a charter member of the Virginia Green program. According to the VisitCharlottesville.org website, the following local restaurants and lodging have received certification from the Virginia Green program (as of March 2016):
