Visiting Old Trail
Entering Old Trail Village from US Route 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) takes your breath away, as the Blue Ridge Mountains form the backdrop. It is truly an awesome sight to behold. Let me say right here… the whole experience of Old Trail is a little overwhelming! At first, it feels like a crazy mix of neighborhoods within neighborhoods. However, once you understand the lay of the land, different areas become more clear. At 9 a.m. in the morning it is a very busy place! New construction is ongoing. People are out running along the the trail in Western Park, the green space still in development. Folks are walking their dogs, playing golf, swimming at the community pool, and exercising at the Old Trial- Crozet acac Fitness and Wellness Center. The Old Trail Golf Club has a clubhouse, an 18 hole course, and is open to the public.
Recreational choices are huge here. There is also a regulation 3.2 mile cross country course within the community’s green areas which is open to the public for use at all times except during competition events of the Western Albemarle Cross Country teams. In addition, Residents of Old Trail are welcome to play on the Western Albemarle High School tennis courts for free. Acac members can use the community pool for free.
The large and very popular Senior Living facility, The Lodge at Old Trail is very walkable to The Square. Here there are some restaurants, a few shops, and medical offices. Other amenities such as grocery stores and gas stations are in the town of Crozet, a very short drive away. The development of Old Trail has been very interesting to watch over the years. The older areas have bigger lots with Colonial and Craftsman style single family homes, patio homes, and townhouses, all made of brick, wood, and/or stone. There are a few Cape styled homes mixed in. Just about everyone has a garage.
New construction today follows the older styles but there are more modern styled townhomes being built as well. Some areas have luxury homes with large lots nestled on the hillsides near wooded areas. Some are near a creek where you can hear the water trickling by. There are lovely attached patio and single family homes surrounding the golf course. Townhouses are 2 and 3 stories high, mixed in with attached patio homes and single family houses. Sidewalks are everywhere. It appears there is something for everyone’s tastes and interests.
The Old Trail neighborhood has out-sold other new home areas by far. The number of builders at Old Trail is now at 6. There is a Community Association for all home owners. For more details about the entire area, please visit here: Learn more about Old Trail
