Next stop is the Charlottesville Senior Center, not your everyday Senior Center, that’s for sure! It is a place of action and fun and caring. It’s a place for seniors to gather with their peers for exercise, for learning, for travel, for companionship. The Charlottesville Senior Center is a great place to begin when looking for all things “senior” in the Charlottesville area. Today (2018), the Center is located at 491 Hillsdale Drive, but the Charlottesville Senior Center is in the midst of a phenomenal capital campaign to relocate to an area called Belvedere. This new location will be off of Rio Road, with great access from all parts of Charlottesville and surrounding communities.

University of Virginia Health Systems:

The University of Virginia Medical Center, located in the heart of the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville, is an award-winning hospital. Services specifically for seniors include a joint venture between the University of Virginia Health System , Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA) and Riverside Health System, creating the Charlottesville-area Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). Charlottesville PACE is an option for receiving long-term care without moving to a nursing home; the service area includes Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Nelson, Fluvanna, Greene and Louisa. UVa offers satellite Primary Care facilities throughout the region, including Lake Monticello Primary Care, Zion Crossroads Primary and Specialty Care, and Primary Care Riverside (at Forest Lakes) , to name just a few.
Sentara Healthcare Systems:
We are so lucky to have a second community hospital, because it is part of Sentara Healthcare , one of the most progressive and integrated healthcare organizations in the country! Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is located at Pantops surrounded by a huge complex of facilities and doctors’ offices. Recently, ACAC (Atlantic Coast Athletic Clubs of VA) just opened a new facility inside the Sentara Martha Jefferson Sports Medicine Clinic. There are a variety of rehabilitation and treatment programs along with website posts regarding health issues. Exciting news for Seniors is the new space to be leased by Martha Jefferson Hospital inside the new Senior Center to be built at Belvedere. The space will be a primary care clinic, open to all but focusing on Seniors. On the north side of Charlottesville on Proffit Road is a wonderful outpatient facility, Sentara Martha Jefferson Outpatient Care Center, offering Family Medicine, Emergency, and many other services.
