Organizations like the Ivy Creek Foundation keep our natural resources alive, such as the Ivy Creek Natural Area. Until I became a member of the Foundation, I had no idea the number of programs that are sponsored year ’round. March 14 7:30 pm (Wednesday) Virginia Native Plant Society Meeting Come to our monthly meeting for a lecture on a specific aspect of plants and their interactions with the natural world. Meetings are free and open to all plant enthusiasts. Meet at the Education Center at the Ivy Creek Natural Area.
March 17 9:00 am (Saturday) Native Plant Walk – Spring Ephemerals
Search for the wildflowers of March, the spring ephemerals at Ivy Creek. They’re only here for a few days before the trees leaf out. Tim Williams will be our guide. Cosponsored with the Virginia Native Plant Society. Free and open to all. Meet outside the Education Center of the Ivy Creek Natural Area.
March 22 7:00 pm (Thursday) The Songs of Frogs and Toads What better way to celebrate the new season than to learn the sounds of spring? Michelle Prysby will present a program on local frogs and toads and how to identify their songs and calls. Free and open to all. Meet in the Education Center of the Ivy Creek Natural Area.
March 29 10:00 am (Thursday) Toddler Time Introduce your toddler to nature with this short talk and trail walk for three to five year olds. Volunteer guide Rachel Bush will host, starting in the Education Center at Ivy Creek Natural Area.
Monthly Bird Walk
Learn about the local birds. Beginners or experts welcome. Bring your trusty binoculars or borrow a pair at Ivy Creek Natural Area from the Monticello Bird Club. Meet in the parking lot on the first Saturday of every month at 7:30 am.
From January to October on the last Thursday morning of every month, introduce your toddler to nature with this short talk and trail walk for three to five year olds. Volunteer guide Rachel Bush will host, starting in the Education Center at Ivy Creek Natural Area.
Help us maintain the trails at the Natural Areas. We’ll do invasive plant removal, and trail improvements. Call 973-7772 or email firstname.lastname@example.org in advance so can organize properly. We’ll be there on the following mornings: Thursday March 15, Saturday March 24, Thursday April 19, Thursday May 17 and Saturday May 26.
